Trakai - Photographs of Lithuanian Cottage Homes zine
I am an Australian / Lithuanian artist and designer currently living in Tokyo. My father was Lithuanian, and my mother is Australian. My upbringing in Australia was infused by many Lithuanian traditions. We would hand paint Easter eggs, eat dill pickles and beetroot salad, spend weekends at the local Lithuanian club eating cepelinai and practicing traditional Lithuanian dance. I have fond memories of our linen cupboard being filled with the most divine Lithuanian linen, and our home was filled with so many pieces of amber jewellery.
I had the opportunity to re-visit Lithuania in 2015 thanks to ‘Now Japan’ festival who flew me to Lithuania to speak at a Japanese cultural festival. I visited Trakai, a small village just out of the countries capital city, Vilnius. I was mesmerised by the quaint cottages in Trakai. This zine is a collection of the images I took in this sweet Lithuanian village.
